New York-based cabaret-punk act Hannah vs The Many is traveling to Boston this weekend and I have the privilege of joining them on bass for two dates! Earlier this year, HVTM released All Our Heroes Drank Here, which I also played bass on. I was bummed I couldn’t make it to NYC this weekend to catch them at CMJ. Joining them/us this weekend on the Born to Drink Tour will be glammy power-punk act Haley Bowery & The Manimals. I caught them at one of the last New York gigs I played with Hannah and they’re a helluva show. They’re also promoting the release of a split 7″ put out by Drink More Records (only 100 made!). I played on the recently released record “All Our Heroes Drank Here” by Hannah Vs. The Many, discussed a bit more at length here. The record has been getting great reviews, which is really exciting. However, I get antsy when you only see good reviews. I think it doesn’t speak so highly for a publication if they’re only giving out good reviews; the reviews become meaningless. I appreciated the honest review the Hey Stranger record got from a publication that I’m confident actually knows the music. (more…)
Last night I played bass for Hannah Vs The Many at Cake Shop for the CD release party for “All Our Heroes Drank Here.” This is the second release by Hannah Fairchild, but the first under the name “Hannah Vs. The Many.” I was privileged with playing the CD release shows for both albums. This was even more special because I actually played the record. The first album, “Paper Kingdom,” is very much an acoustic affair. “All Our Heroes Drank Here” really presents Hannah’s material the way it was meant to be heard. (more…)
Gigs in Long Island, NJ, Philly, Manhattan, and Brooklyn! Except… Connecticut! Why is so hard for me to play in the place where I’m from?!
My last post went on and on about The Hard Times so I’ll start with Hey Stranger. (more…)
Fri 11/12 gig with Hey Stranger at National Underground. The venue treated us very poorly and barely had their shit together. Super Mirage was so good! We crammed in 6 songs before they through us out. It was basically a basement show with an overpriced bar, but great people stayed to watch.
Sat 11/13 gig with The Hard Times in strong island. Suprisingly cool crowd, lots of dancing, bittersweet send off for Juan (bassist leaving for LA). Got noticed as a CTSka Alum. Accidental EP release party for “Two Bucks For Bob.” Details to come. I’m so impressed how fast The Frighteners have created a crowd and a following for themselves.
Sun 11/14 recording with Hey Stranger out in Queens. I sat in the producer chair for day 2 of horn recording. Really proud of what we got done today, lots of energy from the players today. Here’s a video I snapped on the ol’ blackberry of our horns bustin’ their asses. (more…)
